Every team needs a Captain.
The Avengers (2012), directed by Joss Whedon, is a superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics superhero team.
Synopsis: When Earth is threatened by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his cohorts, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits a team of superheroes to form "The Avengers". The team consists of Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).
AWESOME! Well, maybe that's an understatement.
Quoting Nick Fury, "There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could..."
Director Joss Whedon says, "There's a thunder god, there's a green "id" giant rage monster, there's Captain America from the 40s, there's Tony Stark who definitely doesn't get along with anybody. Ultimately these people don't belong together and the whole movie is about finding yourself from community. And finding that you not only belong together but you need each other, very much. Obviously this will be expressed through punching but it will be the heart of the film." [via]
The Avengers is not a mindless action movie with nothing else but too much unnecessary action and eye-blinding special effects (Hint: Michael Bay's Transformers movies).
It's undeniable that The Avengers' special effects are awesome and entertaining; but the movie's true strength lies with the witty and robust dialogues that reflect each superhero's personality brilliantly. In short, The Avengers lives up to its hype.
Watch this short clip with special appearance by Robert Downey Jr. :)
Seriously, you must catch this movie on the big screen! Oh, and do stay back for a little while to watch the post-credits scene. You'll get to see another villain! :D
