Movie: Underworld series

After watching Underworld: Awakening (2012), I decided to watch the first three movies of the Underworld series.

Underworld (2003)

• Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a Vampire who hunts and destroys the Lycans (the hybrid species that can alternate between human and werewolf form), who allegedly killed her entire family.


• Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), a human pursued by the Lycans for their experiments.


• The plot to destroy the Vampire Elders, including her father figure Elder, Viktor (Bill Nighy).


• The Vampires, Werewolves, and Lycans are not supernatural creatures, but rather the product of a virus.

Underworld: Evolution (2006)

• Selene's face-off with Marcus Corvinus (Tony Curran), the last Vampire Elder.


• Marcus is the first Vampire and he plans to free his brother, William Corvinus, the first and most savage Werewolf, who has been imprisoned for ages.


• The forefather of the Vampires and Werewolves was Alexander Corvinus. He was infected by a virus and became the first immortal. He had three sons, two of whom inherited his immortality and were bitten, one by a bat and one by a wolf, thus creating the Vampire (Marcus) and Werewolf (William) lines.


• Corvinus' third son, who did not inherit his immortality, also carried the Corvinus Strain as an exact duplicate of the original virus, hidden away in his genetic code and passed along to his human descendants through the centuries. This is the key to creating a hybrid, the reason behind the Lycans' experiments and pursuit of Michael Corvin.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

• Focuses primarily on the origins of some characters and the events leading to the Vampire-Lycan war.


• The birth of Lucian (Michael Sheen), "the first of the Lycans" - the hybird species that can alternate between human and werewolf form.


• The Vampires enslaved the Lycans as guardians of their lairs during the daylight hours and labor during the night.


• Vampire Elder Viktor's daughter, Sonja (Rhona Mitra), fell in love with Lucian and became pregnant with his child.


• Viktor killed Sonja to prevent the blending of the species, causing Lucian, now the leader of the Lycans to revolt.

Underworld: Awakening (2012)

• Takes place six months after the events of Underworld: Evolution.


• Human government officials and the public learn about the existence of the Vampires and Lycans.


• Eve (India Eisley), Selene and Michael's daughter, is the key to ending the war.
