Revisited: Kitchen Creatures @ Centrepoint, Bandar Utama

Here's the first review of my dining experience at Kitchen Creatures, Centrepoint, Bandar Utama.

For a great dining experience with your family & friends,
visit Kitchen Creatures at:

Email them at kitchencreatures@gmail.com
or call them at 03-7729 8039.

Love its food 'commandments' - no frills dining.

Let's take a look at Kitchen Creatures' pasta selection. Price is good for its portion, which is superb for anyone with normal appetite. :D

Spicy Aglio Olio with Bacon is priced at RM13 at the moment.

Spicy Aglio Olio with Shrimps is priced at RM13 at the moment.

Chicken Alfredo (Carbonara) is priced at RM12 at the moment.

Seafood Garlic Cream Sauce Pasta is priced at RM15 at the moment.

Note: Don't compare their serving portions with places like Italiannies and Chili's. At Kitchen Creatures, you'll be satisfied with what you pay for what you eat.

This is an interesting beverage named Limey George - Ribena mixed with Sprite and a slice of lemon.

Monster Platter is priced at RM15 at the moment.

What say you? :)

Movie: The Exorcist III (1990)

Do you dare walk these steps again?

The Exorcist III (1990) is a supernatural thriller, adapted from William Peter Blatty's novel, Legion (1983). Blatty is also the director of this movie.

Here's the synopsis: It's the 15th anniversary of the death of his best friend, Father Damien Karras, but Lt. Kinderman (George C. Scott) is busy tracking down a serial killer. His victims were brutally tortured, disfigured, and decapitated with patterns resembling what the Gemini Killer had done before. However, the Gemini Killer has been dead for 15 years.

One thing for sure, you're not gonna get much blood and gore from this movie. You won't see any severed limb or decapitated head or bloodied body parts. In fact, this is one true psychological thriller that thrives a lot on dialogues, facial expression, still scenes with no music, no sound, and hardly any action... Throughout the entire movie, you'll feel rather dull, tense, and suspenseful because you can't expect what's gonna happen next.

In short, this movie is truly a classic thriller resembling Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock's movie in the 1960s. Quoting a review, "In one conversation you'll hear about a murder so vile that you'll never want to hear the word "catheter" again. And the beauty is that you never see a thing. If this subtle style appeals to you, then you certainly won't be disappointed."

Watch it on YouTube if you like. :)

Mille Crepe @ Dessert's Bar Cafe, Subang Parade

Dinner on Friday was at Dessert's Bar Cafe, Subang Parade.

Apart from cheesecakes, Mille Crepe is also one of my favorite cakes. I've tried Food Foundry's Vanilla Mille Crepe. Sudden cravings for another slice of this layered creamy cake is satisfied at Dessert's Bar Cafe, well, after 'pestering' the boyfriend. :) At the moment, it's priced at RM8 per slice.

For a more filling dish, I chose this healthy looking Smoked Chicken Wrap. I'm not quite sure what is it made from, I think most likely smoked chicken cubes, crushed pineapples, and a handful of cous cous wrapped in an omelet, served with garden salad, a little cup of barbecue sauce, and baked potatoes. :) It's decently priced at RM9.90 at the moment, not inclusive of service charges yet.

I'd agree that Dessert's Bar Cafe serves a good selection of food for the health-conscious. They have different kinds of wraps, mostly not fattening and are not in portions that are way too huge for petite eaters. There are also quite a number of choices for fruit smoothies and cakes, apart from mille crepe.

I'd love to drop by again. :)

Movie: Gothika (2003)

Because someone is dead doesn't mean they're gone.

Gothika (2003) is a psychological supernatural thriller starring Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Charles S. Dutton, and Robert Downey Jr.

Here's the synopsis: Dr. Miranda Grey (Halle Berry) works as a criminal psychiatrist in a mental institution. She's married to the head-in-charge of the institution, Dr. Douglas Grey (Charles S. Dutton).

One stormy night, Dr. Miranda is involved in an accident. To her dismay, she wakes up finding that she's accused of murdering Doug. However, she couldn't remember anything at all. With only fragmented memories of the alleged crime, she begins to hunt for the truth although everyone thinks she's crazy including her colleague,
Dr. Pete Graham (Robert Downey Jr.).

At the same time, she's haunted by the ghost of a girl called Rachel who's trying to convey a message to her with the phrase 'NOT ALONE'. As Miranda delves deeper and deeper with clues provided by Rachel Parsons, she realizes that Doug's the mastermind behind something very, very horrible.

I like this line that Dr. Miranda tells herself when she's all alone in her cell: "I am a rational person. I believe in science. I don't believe in the paranormal, and I don't believe in ghosts. But if you are the ghost of Rachel Parsons, then you would let me out of this cell." Next scene: The cell door is opened by an unseen force...

This movie incorporates scientific and logical explanation to inexplicable paranormal experiences encountered by Dr. Miranda.
In one of the scenes, during a session with a patient named Chloe (Penélope Cruz), she tells Miranda that she's frequently raped by the 'devil' in her cell. The 'devil' is in fact Doug's accomplice in committing horrendous sexual abuse on teenage girls. One of their victims was Rachel Parsons. Eerie huh?

Gothika, albeit its weird title, is considerably intriguing and tense with strong cinematography elements from reputable Asian horror movies, i.e. The Eye, The Ring, etc. You'll get that jerky, uneasy, and unsettling feelings in the pit of the stomach, especially towards the final 45 minutes because you just can't seem to predict what's the next scene would be.

Final verdict: Recommended for horror movie lovers. Watch it on DVD or YouTube. :)

Movie: Knight and Day (2010)

Knight and Day (2010) is an action romantic comedy movie starring Tom Cruise as Roy Miller and Cameron Diaz as June Havens.

If you've watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or recently, The Killers (2010) starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, Knight and Day is more or less, of the same genre albeit different storyline.

You got a charming good guy, a pretty damsel in distress (more or less), tonnes of bad guys, government agents gone rogue, luxurious car chase-and-crash scenes, random gun shots that can't seem to kill the good guys, things get blown up, globe-trotting in foreign cities... you name it. Sounds familiar?

Here's a short synopsis: June Havens (Cameron Diaz), an average young woman bumps into a charming and mysterious man,
Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) at the airport when she's on her way to Wichita, Kansas to attend her sister April's wedding.

June quickly falls for Roy, who turns out to be a super secret agent. His job is to protect a boy named Simon Peck and a
mysterious device called "Zephyr". June's seemingly harmless blind date turns her life upside-down when Roy takes her on a dramatic worldwide journey to protect both Simon and the "Zephyr".

Verdict: With a rather familiar and predictable storyline, there's basically nothing new about Knight and Day. What about Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz? Well, they form quite an amicable, typical pair of onscreen lovers who are separated by doubts and rejoined by trust.

Finally, I like its sweet and perfect 'happily-ever-after' kinda ending that warms your heart and makes you wanna hug your boyfriend right away. :)

Movies: Star Wars: Episodes IV, V, VI

Finally, I've watched Star Wars: Episodes IV, V, VI. ^^

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

It is a dark time for the Rebellion. Although the Death Star has been destroyed, Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy. Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. The evil lord Darth Vader, obsessed with finding young Skywalker, has dispatched thousands of remote probes into the far reaches of space...

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Luke Skywalker has returned to his home planet of Tatooine in an attempt to rescue his friend Han Solo from the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt. Little does Luke know that the GALACTIC EMPIRE has begun construction on a new armored space station even more powerful than the first dreaded Death Star. When completed, this ultimate weapon will spell certain doom for the small band of rebels struggling to restore freedom to the galaxy...

Thanks for watching all three episodes with me, my dear. :)

Movie: The Karate Kid (2010)

The Karate Kid (2010) is a semi martial arts movie - the remake of the 1984 movie of the same name but with a slightly different plot and different actors. For this 2010 version, Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) and Jackie Chan are the main stars.

Here's the synopsis: Due to work, Mrs. Parker (Taraji P. Henson) has to move from their home in Detroit, America to Beijing, China with her son, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith). In Beijing, Dre quickly develops a crush for one of his new classmates, Mei Ying, a blossoming violinist. Because of this, he's bullied by Cheng, a martial arts student.

Devastated and in fear, Dre befriends the maintenance man, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who turns out to be a kung fu master. Han is hesitant to teach Dre kung fu in the beginning. However, he gives in and spends his time to train Dre so that Dre could face those who bully him and gain respect in this foreign land. Thus begins a unique friendship between Han and Dre.

Most people whom I know give this movie good ratings. To me, there are a few reasons why I don't quite enjoy watching it.

1) For a movie as long as 2 hours and 30 minutes, The Karate Kid is a tad too long and draggy, especially during the first 1.5 hours. Dre's daily training sequences are rather monotonous, repetitive, and not exciting. I'm rather disappointed. The most watchable part of the movie happens during the last 30 minutes or so - the final fighting scene.

2) Jaden Smith is quite a disrespectful young fella for his age (12 years old). He's good in martial arts, no doubt about that. However, in other scenes that involve lengthy conversation with his mom and Mr. Han, he can be rather rude and loud.

3) There's basically no chemistry between Dre and Mei Ying, his crush. This young onscreen pair looks so awkward and unnatural. Not that I'm racist, but they just don't match.

4) Jackie Chan. Honestly speaking, I'm not quite sure what's wrong with him in this movie but he's no match to 1984's Mr. Miyagi. Period.

I've warned you beforehand, this is another disappointing remake. However, if you must watch, go ahead. :)

Marmalade Cafe @ Plaza Mont Kiara

I'm back from my boss' daughter's first birthday party at Marmalade Cafe, Blk E, Ground Floor, Plaza Mont Kiara.

Happy Birthday Rebecca! :)

It seems that Marmalade Cafe is a rather popular choice to organize birthday parties for kids. Lightly yet cheerfully decorated with light purple and dark purple balloons, this cafe is transformed into a cozy and heartwarming gathering place for friends and family members this evening.

Choices of food are good, ranging from light bites, e.g. quiches and pikelets to richer dishes, e.g. pasta and lasagna. Desserts include tiramisu and mini carrot cupcake. Free flow of iced lemon tea is served plus coffee and tea too.

Thanks for the invitation. :)

Movie: The Amityville Horror (2005)

Based on the true story.

The Amityville Horror (2005) is a horror movie based on the 1977 novel of the same name that documented the Lutz family's experience while staying at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, Long Island.

Synopsis: On 14 November 1974, Ronald DeFeo or Ronnie shot his parents and four siblings to death in their sleep. He claimed that it was the "voices" that told him to do so.

One year later, 18 November 1975, George (Ryan Reynolds) and Kathy Lutz (Melissa George) and their three children, Billy, Michael, and Chelsea (Chloe Grace Moretz) moved into the house. George and Kathy knew about the murder but they shrugged it off, hoping that they're gonna make things work for their family.

For 28 days, they were terrorized by demonic forces. Chelsea told Kathy that she can see and talk to Jodie (the youngest girl of the deceased DeFeo family) while George began to hear voices and behave weirdly. Finally, before it was too late, the Lutz family fled their home and never came back to regain their possessions.

I did some research on the Internet, it turns out that the horror story is a hoax. Here's a website that publishes an extensive research about The Amityville Murders.

I watched it via streaming on YouTube. Here's the link. It's not really a good movie so if you're not a horror movie fan, you can give this movie a skip.

I watched it because I knew Chloe Grace Moretz is starring in the movie. I've seen her in Kick Ass (2010) as Hit Girl, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010) as Angie, and Jack and the Beanstalk (2010) as Jillian.
Here's her website.

Birthday Dinner @ Marché Mӧvenpick, The Curve

My birthday dinner with David was at Marché Mӧvenpick, The Curve. He hasn't been there since college days, so I guess this would be the perfect place for dinner. :)

Mӧvenpick sounds like move-'n'-pick, i.e. you move around different food stations and pick food items that you like. If you've been to Marché, you'll know the "ticketing" and "moving-picking" system.

The cool thing is, since it's the football season now, Marché's employees are wearing different country's football jerseys and country flags are hung all over the ceiling. A giant screen is propped up at the far end of the outlet for football fans to watch the latest match.

Good news! Marché's food quality is still very good. Here's our pick: Saute Mushroom, Rotisserie Roasted Chicken, and Make-Your-Own Salad.

This is my all-time favorite beverage - Bundaberg's Australian Ginger Beer. I just love to drink it straight from the bottle.

This is dessert - Strawberry Panna Cotta - smooth and soothing.

By the way, here's something worth to keep in mind. Marché's Lunch Special (homemade lunch special for only RM12.50++) is available for a limited period of time (
14-25 June 2010), Monday to Friday, 11am to 3pm.

Movie: The A-Team (2010)

There Is No Plan B

The A-Team (2010) is an action movie based on the television series of the same name in the 80's.

Now, The A-Team reminds me of The Losers - the kind of movie that thrives on action, action, and more action!... and, punched with comic relief at the right moment without jeopardizing its action sequences' pacing. Brilliant!

The A-Team is about Hannibal Smith (Liam Neeson) and his eccentric team members, B.A. Baracus (Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson), Murdock (Sharlto Copley), and Face Peck (Bradley Cooper) who try to clear their names after they were framed of committing a serious military crime during an operation in Iraq.

The awesomeness of this movie comes from good team dynamics.
Each character has his own mark of personal appeal that blends well with sizzling chemistry. Interesting? :)

* Hannibal: The team's cool, die-hard, brainy veteran leader whose strategy planning is legendary.

* Face: The handsome army guy whose old flame is Charisa Sosa (Jessica Biel) who's a conflicted agent with the U.S. military.

* Baracus: The bad boy who refuses to fly in any kind of aircraft after a near-death experience in a helicopter flown by Murdock in Mexico.

* Murdock: Jittery and crazy, he's the scene-stealer. He drives aircraft as if he's doing acrobats. Both Baracus and Murdock provide good comic relief to the movie. In fact, Sharlto Copley should become the next big star. His performance in District 9 is also superb.

Finally, Patrick Wilson as Lynch, the two-faced C.I.A. agent and Brian Bloom as Brock Pike, one of the agents from a private security firm, Black Forest also provide good support to the movie.

Highly recommended! You won't regret watching it on the big screen. Have fun!

Desserts @ My Honeymoon Dessert Restaurant, One Utama

My sister treated me to dessert at My Honeymoon Dessert Restaurant as an early birthday treat. :)

My Honeymoon Dessert Restaurant (LG322, LG Floor, Oval, One Utama) is located beside BBQ Chicken. This cozy eatery is easily spotted if you're coming from the main entrance from the open car park.

Durian Pancake

Barley with Fuchuk, Gingko, and Hard-boiled Egg

Lotus Tea with Dried Longan and Hard-boiled Egg

Six Happiness Sweet Balls - Sesame, Custard, Chocolate, Green Tea, Peanut, Taro (Yam)

If you're craving for desserts, this would be a good choice for its variety of hot and/or cold desserts. Posh and cozy, this eatery is a perfect place for some quiet moments, perhaps with a book. I'd love to visit this place again some time later.
