Rio (2011) is a musical animated movie from the creators of Ice Age.
Synopsis: A young macaw, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg from The Social Network), was kidnapped by poachers but luckily, he was adopted by a loving owner, Linda (Leslie Mann). 15 years later, Linda owns a bookstore in Minnesota and Blu stays by her side as her companion.
One day, a Brazilian ornithologist, Túlio (Rodrigo Santoro) finds Linda and tells her that Blu is the last male of his species. He wants to take them to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil so that he could breed Blu with Jewel (Anne Hathaway), another female macaw in captivity.
Things don't turn out to be good when poachers steal both macaws. Blu and Jewel have to try their best to escape while avoiding being captured by the poachers and their insane cockatoo Nigel (Jemaine Clement).
Consensus from movie critics: "This straightforward movie hits great heights thanks to its colorful visual palette, catchy music, and perfect vocal performances." This sentence pretty much sums up the entire movie.
What I enjoy the most is the abundance of life and energy, vibrant colors and sentiments, and catchy songs projected from this movie. Awesome!
Take a look at some video clips:
The first song in the movie: Real in Rio
The insane cockatoo's song: Pretty Bird (Nigel's Song)
The bird-dancing song: Hot Wings
Highly recommended. Go watch it. :)
