Courage is Immortal
Thor (2011) is a superhero movie based on comic book character of the same name published by Marvel Comics.
Synopsis: In 970 A.D., the Asgardians, led by Odin (Anthony Hopkins) wages war against the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and their leader Laufey (Colm Feore), to prevent them from conquering the Nine Realms, starting with Earth.
Years later, Odin makes his son, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) his heir but a few Frost Giants sneak into Asgard and attempt to steal the Casket of Ancient Winters. Thor's brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), convicts Thor and his companions to go to war against the Frost Giants, against Odin's orders. Due to his disobedience, Thor is punished and banished to Earth by Odin. His powers and hammer, Mjolnir are taken away from him.
On Earth, Thor befriends a young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and her companions, Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) and Darcy (Kat Dennings). Thor sets out to retrieve his hammer from SHIELD while Loki continues to plot and manipulate his ways to conquer Asgard.
Norse mythology and science fiction - an interesting blend and approach by Marvel. After releasing Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Iron Man II, Thor comes in as the fourth movie. I like the subtle continuity of these movies. Next in line are Captain America, The Avengers, and Iron Man 3. Pretty impressive, I'd say.
Okay, back to Thor. Charming Aussie with a great body, Chris Hemsworth is absolutely perfect as Thor, the God of Thunder who journeys from a young and impetuous fighter to a wiser warrior. My favorite character is the quiet, manipulative yet sympathetic Loki, a complicated villainous role perfectly portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. Anthony Hopkins as the old Odin is intimidating and his performance is as superb as ever. In fact, the scenes between Hopkins, Hemsworth, and Hiddleston are complicatedly wonderful and each of them brings the best of their characters.
Overall, this is an entertaining superhero movie, one that you really won't wish to miss out. Tell you something, I'd say that I THOR-oughly enjoyed watching this movie. ;)
